How to Change from Windows 8 Back to Windows 7

Windows 8 is the latest in the line of Microsoft’s operating systems. It showcases several new features including the all-new desktop interface. However, not everyone can adapt to this new system, and some would still prefer Windows 7 over it. If you’re one of those people who upgraded, or using Windows 8 but would like to go back to 7, then scroll down to step 1.

Get a Window 7 installer. Visit http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool and follow the instructions.

Back up all the documents. Your hard drive and its contents will be wiped out upon reformat, so it is absolutely necessary to create a backup of your files. You can backup your data by connecting an external hard drive to your computer (with a USB or firewire cable), and following the prompts given. You can also backup your files through a Cloud platform.

Set your computer so that it boots from your DVD first. This is a basic step for reformatting. Simply access your computer’s BIOS and change the boot sequence.

Put the Windows 7 installer on the DVD drive and restart your computer. Once your PC restarts, it will boot from the DVD drive with the installer in it and start the formatting process.

Follow the step-by-step instructions on the Windows 7 installer window. The instructions are quite easy to understand and very easy to do.
  • Once the setup is finished, your computer will restart and will now be running on Windows 7.
